A slot used to adjust a panel during installation has a different job from a slot intended to permit movement in service. State the intended function before reviewing the slot and fastening arrangement. The same visible opening does not establish the same joint behaviour.
Define the final condition
An adjustable mount may be positioned and then secured. A movement accommodation needs a defined operating relationship between the connected parts. Explain which behaviour the project requires and identify the relevant direction or range without asking the slot outline to convey the whole requirement.
Review the complete fastening interface
Include the hardware, contact faces, edge distances and adjacent structure needed for the engineering review. A slot alone does not prove that movement will occur as intended or that the connection is suitable for its load. The responsible designer must assess the joint and its operating condition.
Inspect the correct state
Agree which dimensions are checked on the loose panel and which checks concern the installed assembly. Retain the evaluated fastening arrangement with any functional trial. If the hardware or mounting concept changes, review whether the earlier result remains applicable. The drawing should distinguish intended adjustment, retained position and permitted motion rather than using one ambiguous “elongated hole” note.
