Carbon Fiber Tube Assemblies: Total Mass Does Not Locate the Centre of Gravity

A tube assembly’s total mass does not identify where that mass acts. Fittings and attached equipment can move the centre of gravity even when the bare tube stays unchanged. Include the complete installed configuration when balance or support reactions matter to the application.

Define what is included

List the fittings, hardware and carried equipment that belong in the assembly mass. State whether a reported value is calculated or measured and identify the corresponding configuration. A bare tube weight should not silently become the mass basis for a fully equipped member.

Locate the reference

Use a defined end, axis or assembly coordinate system to express a required balance or centre-of-gravity location. Include adjustable items and their relevant positions. Two assemblies can have similar total mass yet place that mass differently relative to their supports.

Connect the record to the use case

Explain the intended installation and the condition being assessed. An engineering review may need the position of the applied loads as well as the mass record. Keep that setup with a sample result instead of presenting “lightweight” as a complete balance requirement. This guide does not calculate a load capacity or centre-of-gravity tolerance for an unspecified tube assembly.
