Identify the actual contact pair
Describe what touches the pad, how it moves and where contact is expected. A sliding guide, a resting support and an occasional bumper are different uses. Specify the pad profile and the relationship to the panel. If a material is selected for friction, chemical exposure or abrasion, use the relevant material information and application review. This article does not assign a universal low-friction material to every carbon composite assembly.
Check attachment and replacement
A bonded pad and a mechanically retained strip require different removal and replacement procedures. Show holes, adhesive boundaries or retaining features, and clarify which surfaces may be prepared. Ask whether the pad can be replaced without damaging the underlying component or disturbing adjacent interfaces. Define the replacement part and its identification. A workshop improvisation should not silently become the approved service method.
Separate fit from durability evidence
Inspect pad seating, clearance and contact alignment in the finished assembly. These checks do not establish wear life. If endurance evidence is needed, define the contact partner, motion, loading, environment and assessment criterion with the responsible engineer. Keep wear findings tied to the test configuration. A pad supplier’s material result cannot automatically become a lifetime claim for the complete carbon panel.
Example: a guided sliding cover
A cover rubs against a guide during service access. The project adds a replaceable strip rather than leaving the contact location undefined. The supplier reviews the strip seating and attachment, while the equipment team defines the motion and endurance check. The service list identifies the strip separately from the cover and includes its approved replacement procedure.
