When reviewing a carbon fiber bicycle frame, distinguish the visual shape from the geometry that defines the bicycle. A catalogue silhouette cannot confirm size, clearances or component compatibility.
Use a controlled geometry drawing
Ask for the proposed size and geometry reference, including the interfaces to the fork, wheels, drivetrain and seat assembly. Mark which dimensions are fixed and which belong to a size range. A colour rendering should refer to the same frame configuration as the drawing.
Review the assembly rather than the frame alone
Confirm the intended components and the conditions used to assess their fit. Any claim about riding performance, load capacity or durability needs evidence for the specified complete configuration. Treat sample appearance approval and engineering acceptance as separate records.
Example scenario
A frame photograph resembles the desired size, but the quotation does not identify the geometry revision. Request the controlled drawing and intended mating components before approving the sample. Keep paint and surface choices separate from the geometry decision.
Points to record
| Geometry reference | Identify size, drawing number and revision. |
|---|---|
| Component interfaces | List fork, wheel, drivetrain and seat configurations. |
| Approval record | Separate appearance, fit and performance evidence. |
