A moulded shell can include material beyond its final trimmed edge. Show that allowance separately from the delivered outline. The tool boundary, intermediate blank and finished component should not share one unexplained line on the drawing.
An untrimmed moulding and a finished shell are different delivery conditions. State which one is required and which openings or edges are included in the machining scope. A photograph taken before trimming should be labelled accordingly when it is used in a quotation or sample review.
Give each boundary a clear reference
Show the final edge on the controlled part definition. If the process proposal includes extra material for handling or trimming, distinguish it on the relevant manufacturing definition. Do not derive the delivered size by measuring the outside of an untrimmed sample or a mould photograph.
Retain the final-edge checks
Agree which dimensions, edge condition and interfaces apply after trimming. If a datum or support is removed with the allowance, the final inspection setup still needs a defined reference. A change in trim stock should not quietly move the finished edge. Keep the intermediate and final identities connected so the customer and supplier can distinguish useful process material from the geometry being purchased.
