UAV Mounting Plates: A Practical Drawing and Interface Checklist

Application Engineering / Purchasing guide

At a glance

A UAV mounting plate enquiry should identify the component being mounted, the attachment pattern, available space and the conditions the design must address. A frame photograph does not define a payload interface. Start with the mating geometry and ask the responsible designer to establish the engineering requirements before selecting or ordering the plate.

Map the payload interface

Show mounting-hole locations, connector access and the envelope of the attached equipment. Identify the plate orientation and any surfaces that must remain clear. If the payload is expected to change, define the current configuration and treat future configurations as separate review items rather than assuming universal compatibility.

Explain the assembly constraints

Provide the relationship to the rest of the airframe, including hardware access and nearby components. State any mass target as a design requirement to be evaluated, not as a performance promise inferred from the material. Keep the structural and operational verification with the responsible UAV design process.

Approve the actual configuration

Use the intended hardware and controlled payload reference for fit review. Record the drawing revision and any changes made during the check. A clean visual fit is not flight qualification; acceptance must include the application-specific verification required for the completed system.

Frequently asked questions

Can a plate be selected by drone size alone?

No. The payload, mounting interfaces and engineering requirements must be reviewed.

Does a successful assembly fit check authorize flight use?

No. Fit is one part of the system’s required verification and approval.
