For a composite support used in medical equipment, the enquiry should make mounting and positioning requirements explicit. Mechanical fit can be reviewed without assuming that a material choice establishes device safety or clinical benefit.
Show the interfaces that position the support
Provide a drawing of the support with its locating surfaces and attached hardware. Distinguish a rigid support from an adjustable assembly, and identify which adjustments are controlled by another component. State the intended assembly and inspection condition.
Allocate verification responsibilities
List the component checks expected from the supplier and the equipment-level checks owned by the device manufacturer. Where contact or cleaning conditions matter, pass those requirements to the responsible team early. Do not use a general material photograph or a weight-saving claim as evidence of suitability for patient use.
Example scenario
A support is inspected with an adjustable joint centred, while the equipment drawing defines its position at an end stop. Resolve the inspection position in the drawing and record which condition was used for the reported dimensions.
Points to record
| Mounting reference | Show locating faces and the mating assembly. |
|---|---|
| Inspection condition | State hardware, fixture and adjustment position. |
| Responsibility split | Assign component and equipment verification separately. |
