For an e-mobility project, specify the component’s role before asking for a carbon fiber quotation. A cosmetic panel, an electronics cover and a load-carrying member need different review packages.
Name the role and the interfaces
Identify the vehicle platform, component position and mating parts. Mark whether the item is a removable cover, a trim panel or a part with an assigned structural function. Include drawings of mounting features and explain which existing hardware is to be retained.
Quote the development stages separately
Ask for tooling, first samples and repeat production as separate quotation lines. Set out the fit checks and any project-specific verification before the first sample is made. A catalogue appearance or a raw-material datasheet cannot confirm the finished component’s suitability for electrical, thermal or structural duties.
Example scenario
An enquiry calls a part a battery panel, but does not say whether it is cosmetic trim or an enclosure cover. Clarifying that role first allows the design team to identify the appropriate attachment and verification requirements before a supplier prices it.
Points to record
| Component role | State decorative, enclosure or structural responsibilities. |
|---|---|
| Interfaces | Identify retained hardware, clearances and platform version. |
| Quote stages | Separate tooling, first samples and repeat-order supply. |
