Direct observation of an identified check differs from reviewing the resulting report later.

Witnessing Carbon Fiber Inspection: Agree What Must Be Seen

Witnessing an inspection means observing an identified activity under an agreed scope. It is different from reviewing a report after the activity. State which operation or check needs a witness and how the observation will be recorded before scheduling the inspection.

Name the activity and the item

Identify the part or lot, drawing revision, relevant requirement and the stage to be observed. A visit to the factory is not a substitute for a defined witness scope. If the condition will no longer be visible after assembly, make that timing part of the arrangement.

Separate attendance from approval

Record who is expected to witness and what authority that role has under the agreed project procedure. Attending a check, reviewing its record and accepting the delivery can be separate actions. Do not label a batch approved solely because someone was present.

Retain the actual observation

Connect the witness record to the inspected items, method and result. State any part of the agreed scope that was not observed and how it will be resolved. If remote observation is proposed, agree what the view and supporting records must show rather than relying on an unlabelled video. The useful handover describes the witnessed activity and its limits, so later reviewers can distinguish direct observation from a document review.
