Existing workshop photograph of CNC machining a carbon fiber plate.
A machined carbon fiber part begins with a defined stock material and ends with an agreed edge and surface condition. Quoting only the outline leaves important parts of the supply scope unresolved.
Identify the starting material
State whether the supplier provides the laminate or machines customer-supplied stock. Record the material reference, thickness requirement and any orientation that must be preserved. If the stock changes, review the change instead of assuming that every carbon sheet is interchangeable.
Put the finished condition on the drawing
Identify holes, slots, edge treatment and areas that must remain cosmetic. Agree how the finished part will be inspected and whether any additional sealing, cleaning or assembly operation is included. Do not infer these operations from a photograph of a CNC machine.
Example scenario
A quotation covers cutting the outline and holes, while the buyer expects finished edges and cleaned parts ready for assembly. List these delivery operations explicitly and agree how their completion will be checked at receiving.
Points to record
| Stock scope | Identify who supplies material and its specification. |
|---|---|
| Machined features | Define geometry, orientation and required edge condition. |
| Delivery condition | List included finishing, cleaning and inspection. |
