Unidirectional reinforcement and woven fabric arrange fibres differently. Selecting either form changes the laminate description; it is not simply a choice between two surface patterns. Identify the complete construction before comparing a panel or tube proposal.
Name the reinforcement form
Hexcel distinguishes woven fabrics from unidirectional reinforcement in its product range. For purchasing, retain the exact reinforcement designation rather than shortening everything to “carbon cloth.” The visible outer layer may also differ from the material used inside the laminate.
Keep orientation with each layer
A layup using tape needs a defined orientation for its layers. A woven layer contains yarn directions that also need a reference to the part. Neither description should be inferred from an exterior photograph. Record the intended construction in a form that the designer and supplier can review together.
Review substitutions as construction changes
A similar-looking woven surface does not prove that an alternative panel duplicates the original laminate. Compare the relevant material definition, finished dimensions and required evidence. If a substitution is proposed, identify which layers change and agree the review scope. The purpose is to preserve a usable definition, not to claim that one reinforcement form is universally stronger or more suitable.

For the project review: reinforcement form and designation; layer orientation and part reference; outer appearance versus internal construction; substitution review scope.
