Debulking is a consolidation and air-removal operation during the preparation of a prepreg layup. It is not, by itself, evidence that the resin has completed its cure. Keep the layup operation and the applicable cure record identifiable as separate stages.
Describe the stage being reported
A photograph of a vacuum bag can show a preparation stage or a cure setup. It does not identify which operation occurred. When a manufacturing review includes debulking, connect it to the material, layup stage and applicable instruction. The number of layers and handling condition belong to that process context.
Avoid a universal schedule
Gurit’s processing information gives debulking recommendations for identified material systems. The recommendation belongs with those materials and their instructions. Do not turn a published example into a fixed layer count, vacuum level or duration for every carbon component. A change of material or layup needs a review of the applicable process.
Make the manufacturing sequence readable
For an agreed process record, distinguish layup, debulking and cure rather than putting them under one undated “vacuum completed” entry. Retain relevant interruptions or configuration changes with the job. The useful question is whether the required operation was performed under the applicable instruction, not whether a bag was present. Final laminate acceptance still follows the agreed inspection and test requirements.
