Equal nominal diameters can accompany different conceptual thread pitches on a mating hardware definition.

Metric Threads in Carbon Fiber Inserts: Specify Pitch with the Diameter

The mating thread needs a defined pitch as well as a nominal diameter. Where the selected hardware uses a fine thread or another specific form, retain the complete designation on the assembly definition. A screw that starts into an insert is not a substitute for checking that designation.

Identify the mating pair

Record the insert and fastener product references together. Böllhoff’s fastening information distinguishes metric coarse and fine thread forms. Do not assume that visually similar screws from two assembly kits have the same pitch or tolerance requirements.

Separate the internal thread from its installation

An insert’s mating thread and the feature used to retain it in the composite are different interfaces. Keep the appropriate installation detail with the supplied insert. A thread description alone does not define the outside body, local reinforcement or retention process.

Make the inspection item explicit

Agree how the specified mating thread is checked and identify any required gauge convention. Keep thread conformity separate from pull-out, rotation or repeated-service evidence for the installed joint. If hardware is substituted, review the full designation before trying to resolve an assembly problem by force. The drawing should leave the next person with an identifiable mating pair rather than only a diameter and a photograph.
