Read the scope alongside the proposed test.<\/p>\n<h2>Match the scope to the requested work<\/h2>\n<p>Identify the method, material or product area, and other scope details relevant to the enquiry. ILAC explains accreditation in terms of conformity assessment bodies and their competence for specified activities. Accreditation bodies such as A2LA publish information on laboratory scopes. Use the actual scope document rather than relying only on a logo in a quotation.<\/p>\n<h2>Check who performs and reports the test<\/h2>\n<p>The quotation should make clear where the work is performed and how any subcontracted activity is reported. Ask whether the requested result will be issued within the applicable scope. A laboratory may legitimately offer work outside its accredited scope, but the distinction needs to remain visible in the order and report.<\/p>\n<h2>Keep the specimen and conclusion connected<\/h2>\n<p>A competent test still answers the question defined by its method and specimen. Record whether the specimen represents supplied material, a separate coupon or a finished component. Do not extend a result beyond the tested condition without supporting evaluation.
