It does not directly measure the void content, mechanical properties or acceptance of the cured laminate. Keep the setup record and finished-part evidence separate.

State what was checked

Identify the tool or setup, procedure and the stage at which the observation was made. The relevant process documentation should define its method and criteria. A screenshot of a vacuum gauge without that context is too limited to explain the setup history.

Keep the later process history

A check made before processing describes that moment. The actual run and its records are further information. If the agreed order requires process traceability, specify which records are supplied and how they relate to the part or batch. Do not turn a proposed setup check into a claim that the complete processing cycle was performed correctly.

Ask the finished-part question separately

An appearance concern, dimensional issue or internal inspection requirement needs its relevant assessment. A setup leak check can be part of controlled manufacturing, but should not be relabelled as a direct laminate test. Equally, an acceptable finished-part observation should not be used to reconstruct missing process records. Agree both evidence scopes before production when they matter to release.

Setup checks, processing records and finished-part inspections have distinct scopes. View full size.

For the drawing review

Identified setup and check stage

Applicable procedure and criteria

Actual run records where required

Separate finished-part acceptance

Further reading: Gurit: prepreg processing guide.

Related: Composite Porosity: Ask What the Measurement Actually Represents · Breather and Bleeder Materials: Identify Their Role in the Composite Process.

Discuss your component with Litian Yunde · Browse the component guides

{"@context": "https://schema.org", "@type": "BlogPosting", "@id": "https://www.carbon-fiber-corp.com/vacuum-bag-leak-check-laminate-inspection/#article", "headline": "A Vacuum-Bag Leak Check Is Not a Finished-Laminate Inspection", "description": "A vacuum-bag leak check describes a process setup.
