Three-point and four-point bending use different loading arrangements. A flexural result should identify the method, span, specimen and procedure. Keep those details when comparing carbon fiber laminate data from different reports.
Count the load and support contacts
A three-point arrangement uses one central loading contact between two supports. A four-point arrangement introduces load at two locations between the supports. ASTM D7264/D7264M distinguishes procedures for composite flexural testing. The test label should not be shortened to an unexplained “bend strength.”
Keep specimen geometry with the method
Thickness, span and loading arrangement affect how the test is defined. Request the applicable edition and agreed procedure instead of assuming any bending fixture produces a comparable value. Report the laminate direction and conditioning as well, so the tested construction is identifiable.
Choose evidence for the actual question
A flexural coupon test may help characterize a material, while a finished panel can require an installed load-and-deflection assessment. Neither should be relabelled as the other. For a quotation comparison, flag incompatible test bases rather than ranking the larger numbers first. Agree the required test before commissioning specimens, especially where available stock or machining affects the sample geometry.
