A carbon fiber manufacturing enquiry should name the proposed process and the supplied part, rather than assuming that all carbon components are made in the same way. The route needs to fit the geometry, material system and order requirements.
Ask for a process description at the right level
Request a brief outline of material preparation, forming, consolidation or cure, trimming and inspection as applicable. Ask which operations are included in the quotation and which are outside scope. A process diagram is useful when it represents the actual proposed route.
Link the route to the sample review
Record the material and tooling references used for the sample and identify how they relate to repeat supply. Changes should be visible in the approval record. Avoid treating the name of a process as a guarantee of quality; the evidence must concern the specified part and its acceptance requirements.
Example scenario
A supplier describes a moulding stage but the quotation excludes trimming and inspection. Ask for the full route to the delivered condition, including outsourced or customer-supplied work. This makes the quotation comparable with another supplier’s finished-part offer.
Points to record
| Proposed route | Identify the operations relevant to the part. |
|---|---|
| Included work | Clarify tooling, trimming, finishing and inspection. |
| Sample link | Record how sample manufacture relates to repeat supply. |
